LPG Leakage Protection System, LPG Level Indicator, Automatic Cut Off and Automatic Cylinder Booking

Abstract

The system consists of and electronic kit connected to cloud service with internet and a mobile application connected to cloud service with internet.

The proposed system is used to take an automatic control action after the detection of 0.001% LPG leakage by MQ6 sensor, detecting the level of LPG with the help of measuring instrument and booking a new cylinder from mobile app automatically. The mobile app will be for android and IOS.

·         It requires Internet connection to send information to mobile phone. Because there is poor connectivity in India But Leakage Cut Off System does not require internet to work.

Working:

Gas level indicator and automatic booking: In this feature, an electronic gas level indicator is constructed, which will sense the level of gas left in cylinder by measuring its weight and displays on the mobile application. User will be able to set the min value of level of gas, when reached it will send a push notification on user’s smartphone to book gas or can be automatically booked.

Automatic time based gas cylinder regulator knob off with servo motor: In this feature, a timer can be setup just like an alarm in the mobile app which automatically turn off the gas knob as the timer attains the set value.

Protection: When leakage will occur it will be sensed by gas sensor which will give signal to microcontroller. After that it will give signal to a servomotor connected to the valve handle of regulator of cylinder. Servo will rotate the knob of regulator and will turn off the regulator handle thus cutting the gas supply preventing the leakage of gas. The microcontroller will also give a signal to relays/ solenoids that are attached to main MCB of house. The relay/solenoid will get the signal it will trip the MCB this cutting off electrical power of house power supply of the electric power supply gets shut down, the door and window will also get automatically open and buzzer will start beeping. A battery powered exhaust fan will also get powered on thus helping to decrease the concentration of gas in the particular room.


When leakage will occur then at that time power supply gets automatically turn off, and for throwing gas outside window will open and also exhaust fan will get turn          on and buzzer start beeping for alerting people this will also send and alert notification to user on its mobile application.

The kit is powered by a rechargeable battery which can be recharged by while powering kit with power outlets.

Problem from where we were motivated: 

  • The incident of Cylinder Blast at a residential address on Dhanteras ( During Diwali Festival 2017 ) at Sector 10 Panchkula, Haryana ( Hindustan Times Report : https://bit.ly/2MJ4TKE )

  • There was no electronic tool to measure the gas left in LPG cylinder and LPG usually goes off during the time of cooking.

  • There was no automated system to turn off the gas automatically at the time of LPG leakage.

  • As most of the LPG acidents occur due to short circuit or any spark in the electrical system like switching ON/OFF a switch and there was no system to cut off electricity at the time of gas leakage.

  • There was no alarm system for OFF LPG automatically from where we setup the alarm and it automatically on or off.

  • There was no LPG Leakage alerts on mobile application.

  • There was no automatic booking of new cylinder as the value goes down predefined value.



Features of our invention which are believed to be new and distinguish them over the closest technology.

  • In our invention the kit is connected to the internet and gas level is displayed on the mobile application. 

  • As the gas level goes below the predefined value for eg 10% , it will give a push notification on mobile to take an action to book a new cylinder or not. If user ignores 5 notifications then it will place an order for new cylinder anf will give notification on mobile.

  • We can turn on and turn off the gas regulator knob from the mobile application by touching the button on mobile screen from any where in the world where internet is present.

  • We can schedule time to automatically turn off the gas knob from the mobile application just like an alarm. Which will turn off the gas regulator on the predefined time  and will also give push notification on mobile.

  • At the time of leakage gas regulator knob will turn off automatically by giving push notification on mobile.

  • At the time of leakage system will also trip the main MCB of the Building.

  • We have  have implemented a graph in app which shows the lpg useage with graph.

  • We have implemented it with google assistant to automate tasks like booking gas , turning on off gas regulator.
